We have used 3CX for over 10 years. As a PBX, we never had any issues it was working fine.
In terms of customer service however this is not the case. The 3CX customer service simply doesnt exist unless you want to pay extra for things that should work.
We currently renewed our license for another year, and the system still shows that the license is expired. Their “customer service” team says since the portal shows the license is updated, its our fault and we need to pay extra. Something which is not and we have the proof.

Last year we had the exact same story, they charged us the 75 EUR support fee and their reply was to uninstall and reinstall.

3CX was a replacement for our legacy PBX solution. We needed something more modern to replace the entire company’s legacy phone system[.In many scenarios decision is driven by budget and compared to other solutions at the time of purchase [3CX] was simply the cheapest solution for what it has to offer. If you are looking for integrations, extensibility, and advanced functionalities, this might not be a solution for you. At the time of use (and this may have changed by now), there was a lack of APIs, CLI commands, and similar so nothing could be automated with the system. There are ways of importing data through CSV but automation would solve us so much time and support calls if we were able to connect with other systems.]

My first experience with 3CX was actually at a different organization but after using it and becoming familiar with it I made the recommendation to implement it at my current organization and features aside, the main reason for this was cost, 3CX is crazy affordable, especially when you start to compare it to some of the other names out there. Also, as an individual in the the field of technology I can tell you that it’s crazy flexible too, we didn’t even have to get new handsets to switch. The platform has all the features you’d expect, we only use the basics to be honest and they’re all here.

    Pros

Its communication medium (the internet) makes it easy for people to communicate despite geographical obstacles and the best thing is it doesn’t charge for call roaming costs all you need is access to the internet and the software. The features such as conferencing, webinars, call centers , chat and voice mail allows for individuals or companies to operate seamlessly despite different geographical locations. Support from the manufacturer is simply outstanding as there knowledge base and support team go the extra mile to help you.
    Cons

To get the licensed vendor partnership take a while but its worth it in the end. The limitations to making multiple outbound calls through one gateway makes becomes frustrating when 2 or more people try it at the same time.

The quality of the recorded calls is amazing and it makes them very useful for training purposes. 3CX gives you a lot of freedom to organize the call list in a way that works for youCons

Configuring it when you are starting out takes a lot of time . Status changes ( from online to away and vice versa ) take a while to sync up and this could lead to missed call .

    Use Cases and Deployment Scope
We use 3CX to manage phones through our entire company across many locations and multiple states. All phones are able to be managed by a single 3CX controller, which simplifies management and support while offering features and flexibility to users. Many users have a traditional desk phone, some use only the 3CX smartphone app, others use both. Each extension can be used with any of these options.
    Pros and Cons

Simplicity: Using a single 3CX interface we can manage every phone and extension used throughout our company.
Flexibility: There are a wide variety of options to configure each extension and phone. Changing anything after the hardware is deployed is very easy.
Portability: Phones with 3CX can be easily moved or repurposed within an office or at remote locations, including users’ homes. The mobile app allows users to use their office extension anywhere without exposing their cell number.

Experience or support required: SIP is complicated and nuanced by nature, with any phone system. If you don’t have experience with this, support from a local integrator is all but required.
Adding call flow apps is very complicated: 3CX can be extended with custom developed call flow apps, which is great to meet a specific business need. However, this is very complicated by its nature and requires custom software to be developed.
Failover somewhat limited: Setting up failover is relatively complicated and somewhat limited in performance.

    Return on Investment

Much lower cost than other PBX options: Our company paid nearly 1/5 the cost of purchasing a hardware-based PBX when we instead switched to 3CX. In either case we would have had to replace all phone hardware, but with 3CX we saved a ton of money on licensing and server hardware.
Many locations, one phone system: We were able to tie all of our locations into a single 3CX phone system. This means each location is an extension, allowing call transferring, increased flexibility in auto attendant, and simpler numbers to remember.
Elimination of carrier service: With 3CX we were able to replace carrier service at many separate locations with SIP service. This reduced each locations’ phone bill from $50 per month to $5 per month.

    Alternatives Considered

NEC Univerge 3C and Cisco VoIP PBX

Other phone systems we evaluated were more traditional PBX systems using proprietary hardware servers. We chose 3CX for the flexibility and self-service capabilities. For us this meant being able to replace an aging phone system in one move, then bringing remote locations into that new phone system in separate moves. On a day to day basis, we can easily handle questions and changes that come up without being SIP or phone system experts. As our business evolves, we are able to scale our 3CX system without worrying about hardware limitations or expensive expansions.

I would strongly recommend the 3CX phone platform over any hardware based PBX system. 3CX scales very smoothly since it can be run on anything from a pretty basic computer to a powerful server to a cloud VM. This means getting started can be very inexpensive, and migrating can be much lower cost than moving to a hardware PBX. As with any phone system, experience or support is needed, but 3CX is well designed for usability. There is a decently sized community with users who can help out and share ideas.

We replaced our old office phone system (Cisco Call Manager) with a cloud-based 3CX platform across our organization. Our office location was moved to a new building so it was the perfect time to replace it. As we also moved to a cloud-first strategy, we opted for a hosted 3CX platform. Although it as more features than the old system, I am afraid only the basic features are mostly used.
    Pros and Cons

Call quality is good, better than our old system. Though technology-wise you can’t compare, quality is better than I expected.
Having softphone and mobile apps available is a good feature.
Configuration for the user is relatively easy.

Mobile app is a bit dull to look at. Could be more modern looking
Softphone functionalty is ok, but not great

    Return on Investment

With the right call routing configuration the costs can come down
Having the mobile app makes employees better reachable.

    Alternatives Considered

Cisco Unified Communications Manager (Call Manager) and Genesys PureCloud

We didn’t want Cisco Call Manager anymore. We used a very old version previously, but nonetheless it didn’t have a very good name in the company. PureCloud was too call center focused so in the end, we like 3CX best. A small pilot was configured very fast, and after we went full production, there were no big issues.

I didn’t have to use support personally but I have talked to the administrators of the system and they confirm that any issue is dealt with quickly. As we haven’t had big issues I can’t talk about priority 1 incidents which require immediate attention, but normal issues are answered fairly quickly and accurately.

A good replacement for your basic phone system. If you like mobile apps and softphone, this is also a system to have a very good look at. 3CX is a good competitor in the field but I strongly suggest to compare all the options. If you replace a legacy system you should inform your users of all the new features a system like 3CX offers.

3CX is the VoIP system in place for our municipal offices. We currently service about 30 users. It gives VoIP functionality via Linux, Mac, or even Windows. It was initially set up on a Win Server. It handles all voice communications for the office and transfers off-site as needed. It is very flexible, allowing for future changes.
    Pros and Cons

    Multi-platform support.

    Stability under Windows

Interfaces with Industry standard VoIP switches.

    Alternatives Considered

    Digium Asterisk

Both are great – 3CX was chosen for its Windows compatibility, The operation has been very straightforward and was easily integrated and maintained. The ability to migrate later to a stable Unix platform is considered a real plus. We have been very pleased with the ease of use and the stability that the 3CX system provides, even on a Windows platform.

The biggest advantage of 3CX is Windows operability. While it makes much more sense to use some flavor of Unix; there are situations where deploying in a Won environment makes sense. Once established, it can later be migrated to an inherently stable Unix environment. There are situations where an organization needs to be compatible with other installs, likely using Asterisk. That would be a strong consideration against 3CX.

My entire school district uses the 3CX Phone System. It has allowed us to have a phone in each room, facilitating private conversations with a specific teacher, now the building or district office can not only talk privately with individual teachers, but teachers can also contact parents in a more convenient place and time. Switching to 3CX Phone System has also slashed the phone bill by two thirds. Anything that can save the school district some money is a great product, and that savings alone paid for the phones that were purchased for each classroom. It also allowed us to remove the intercom cables too, as it replaced our intercom old system as well.
    Pros and Cons

The 3CX Phone System has a really nice auto-provision feature that works with plug and play phones, so then all that’s needed is for each to have an extension assigned to them.
The 3CX Phone System web portal is exceptional. I love how I can keep it open during the day and quickly see who is busy on the phone and which lines are available. I can also call quickly by a simple click of the mouse.
The app that accompanies this allows me to provision my cellphone via the app to my classroom extension so that if I am out of my classroom and someone calls my phone, it also rings on my cell phone. I can also call via the app and it appears as if I am calling from my classroom extension.

The webmeeting function is clumsy compared to Zoom or Google Meets (Hangouts).
There is no support offered without paying for it, but the web forum that is offered for free does allow you to throw out questions and have them answered by someone in the community of 3CX user administrators.

    Return on Investment

The money we save by switching to 3CX has helps us in other areas of our district’s budget that directly impacts students.
After setting up the system, if we need to add another phone, it is super easy and takes about 5 minutes. Just plug in the phone, assign it an extension, and start using it.
Staff training was very minimal. Users can bypass the web portal and just use it via a traditional phone.

    Support Rating
    5
The 3CX Phone System is only a five because while they provide set-up/how-to/Q and A documents to help your district or company get started, they do not offer support for free. The documents provided, though, are good enough for you to get you up and running. We also found a good source of help through a sip trunk provider, which was a 3CX reseller provider.

The 3CX Phone System is perfectly suited for schools or businesses that want a reliable phone system and a reduced phone bill. It functions on traditional phones, the web, and on cell phones via the app, making it flexible enough to suit today’s business or educational institution needs. The installation can be done with some basic knowledge also, without needing to hire anyone or pay 3CX for assistance.

It is easy to re-provision an extension on a new piece of hardware

I would like to be able to see direct-dial numbers on the handsets. Currently that is not possible but that would be a nice feature.

I think it is well suited for small businesses. Our company has around 200 employees and it works well for us. I don’t have experience with a larger company but it may be better suited for smaller companies with fewer employees per location. We have had some trouble with too many people bogging down the SBC at one location and we had to install a second SBC.

Very Inexpensive, especially when you start to compare it to some of the competition out there.
You might think for the cost that there would be features lacking but I am yet to find something our previous PBX did that 3CX doesn’t

The set up can seem a little daunting, especially if you plan to take it on internally.
The apps are great, having your extension on your device is great but the desktop/windows app is a little dated, could do with an update.

    Most Important Features

The mobile app is great, it saves us on minutes and lets everyone have their extension on their mobile.
The auto attendant is very useful also.

    Return on Investment

3CX was quite inexpensive to install and has saved us a lot in license fees from out previous PBX system.
3CX has directly reduced the amount we spend on Mobile Minutes thanks to VOIP through the Mobile App.

The flexibility and price of 3CX is really unmatched. Especially when you consider that all the features you need are here. The ability to have your extension on your Mobile Phone or Desktop or Laptop is quite convenient and can save you quite a bit of money. 3CX is great for small businesses on a budget, especially if you have existing handsets. Something to keep in mind though; you wanna make sure you get or have someone who knows what they’re doing to set it up. It really isn’t that hard but the documentation isn’t great so while you might be tempted to DIY it or cut costs by getting someone inexpensive to install, I would not recommend it.

Their Click-To-Call system picks up almost any type of number (doesn’t have to be a correct phone number) from anywhere on your screen and allows you to call it, saving you time.
Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

    What do you dislike?
    1) Terrible call quality. The amount of times the call has dropped or the other party can’t hear me is waaaay too high for this to be considered a reliable calling system.

    2) Customer Support? I can’t report quality issues for a particular call for them to see what’s wrong.

    3) No note-taking option. You can not take notes during the call or after the call through 3CX. You have to go into your CRM and manually find the call and input notes.

    4) No ability to select from a drop-down menu the outcome of a call.

    5) If you want to listen to a recording you have to request access from your admin. The admin will go through the database, find the recording, download it, and then send it to you. Other systems have the recording below the call, available at your fingertips.

Do I really need to go on? The call quality is bad, the note-taking aspect is non-existent and the list goes on. This is NOT a software for sales teams.

The system was very easy to install. We are currently using almost 200 extensions and this system is a breeze to add new stations. The price was also something that was too good to be true. Don’t be fooled by the low price point. This system can hold it’s ground with the bigger players at less than half the price!

We went from having ten branches with traditional phone service and monthly bills in the five to ten thousand range depending on usage, multiple different on-site phone systems, and this was all consolidated into one system, one much lower bill. It comes with an easy-to-manage user interface that even a novice can learn to operate.

For under 50 extensions and without any special functionality, 3CX is a very user-friendly platform. However, for any project that requires any custom functionality, 3CX will simply not be able to offer help.
    Pros

The 3CX installer on both Linux and Windows is incredibly easy to use and users can go from nothing to a fully-featured phone system in less than 20 minutes. Once installed, the user interface is very clean and straightforward. The 3CX Softphone that can be installed on Windows and mac computers pairs effortlessly with 3CX provisioning files.
    Cons

3CX offers very little customization outside of the user interface, and commonly phone system managers will be simply unable to perform more-complex call routing. As an example, dynamic outbound routes are simply not possible outside of the overly-simple Outbound Routes tab, and you are limited to only prefix, length of destination, and from extension. Compared to FreePBX and FusionPBX, the ability..

well it is a phone system. We use 3CX to talk to our customers, we use it as webconference solution and we use it as a very lowlevel slack alternative.
    Pros

3CX is a solid voip solution that offers all the features and functionality an ordinary team or company needs. Installation and maintenance is simple. The webclient is getting better and better with every version. Speaking quality is great if you use the right codecs or hard phones. We love 3CX and use this pbx since many years.
    Cons

There is no documented API. Either something is supported or not. There is no possibility to get individual implementations.

In my opinion, it is a very good tool and hardly ever had problems, because the tool is very stable and with a very good usability, serving very well small businesses.
    Pros

    • It is free. • Assists in the company’s internal communication. • It is always updated with improvements. • Ease of receiving and transferring calls. • Ease of configuration and installation by the end user.
    Cons

    • We used the trial version quietly for 1 year, but due to technical problems due to a codec, it caused a major internal problem where we stayed 3 days without a phone. For this reason the support of the company that provides the service asked us to change the application.

We had a customer that had 3 different companies within the walls of the building. We were able to configure each company separately so that their rules, hours, and each had different SIP providers that needed to be configured up properly. Each had their own digital assistant and the system setup took only a few hours to complete with all the complexity that was involved. Technical support was outstanding in assisting with the troubleshooting and setup.
    Pros

The 8 concurrent call Standard License is free to all companies. This makes it a perfect solution for churches, small businesses, and as the small businesses grow into medium sized businesses, the annual cost for the license with higher concurrent calls is nominal. When companies switch from the POTS lines, they need to figure out a good solution for VoIP. 3cx is lower cost than RingCentral and 8×8 as well as many other competing VoIP softwares.
    Cons

Putting in supported APAP adapters is great, but when a customer has a non supported adapter, it usually works, but doesn’t play nicely with the software as far as configuring it easily.

Everything is self-contained within one package. Effortlessly working between desktop and mobile is so easy, so no longer tied to my desk! Integration with Office 365, so when I’m in meetings, my status is automatically changed to ‘do not disturb’.

    What do you like best?
That it has both computer software for the desktop and an app for your phone to easy access from home. I also like that you can see everyone’s status around the office, and you can tell if they are on the phone or at lunch.

    What do you dislike?
Putting yourself in “away” mode doesn’t allow you to receive calls inside your office. You cant even leave a voicemail at someone’s desk if they are on away. I don’t have much else to complain about; it is a sound phone managing system.

My favorite part is we have the ability to take calls on the go seamlessly. The quality of the calls do not change either when using our 3CX apps. Our clients wouldn’t know if we are at our desk or on the move. We are able to communicate with colleagues, clients and carriers remotely while working from home or on the go. It also allows us to have more control over the phone system, extensions, switchboard, voicemails etc.
